Delamere Illuminated Light Trail (Christmas at Delamere Forest)
Is there anything more magical than sparkling lights of all different colours twinkling in the dark? That is exactly what the Delamere Light Trail for 2021 has to offer. On arrival, you begin your walk into the beautiful woodland through a twinkly dome. If you want to, you can grab some refreshments on your way in from the multiple food and drink outlets outside the visitor’s centre.
As you make your way up to the trail start, you can take in the colourful lit up trees and pass a grotto on the way. You are firstly greeted by a huge eye catching tree lit up in striped lights and that is where the trail begins. Each installation that you pass through has its own music playing from behind the trees. Songs from Disney films, seasonal Christmas songs, Home Alone, Edward Scissor hands and even one of my favourites from the animated film Anastasia.
There is another pit stop about a third of the way around that sells more drinks and marshmallows. You can toast them on the warm fire pit to make them extra gooey. Some of the light installations react to the music playing around it which is really cool to watch and allows your imagination run away with you. The most spectacular part is the tunnel of lights, a beautiful spot to take a nice photograph for some perfect memories. Ivy and I love walks like this in winter, they are events you can attend whether you celebrate Christmas or not, so can be appreciated by everyone.
The food provisions are great. From chips and gouda bits to wraps, churros and pancakes, as well as traditional warm drinks and of course, mulled wine. I had the loaded fries and churros and they did not disappoint. The toilet facilities are located in the visitor’s centre. So if this sounds like you're kind of thing, wrap up warm, pull on some wellies and head to Delamere. Tickets can be bought in advance online and the trial is running until Friday 31 December with entry slots between 4.30pm to 8.45pm from the Forestry England website.
